World of Warcraft celebrates 20 years

World of Warcraft is preparing for its 20th anniversary! WoW is updating old content and making it new again just in time for the start of The War Within.

Expected to start on November 1, the 20th anniversary event will celebrate WoW’s second decade with new toys, armor appearances, mounts, and more. Here’s an overview of what to expect.

Dungeons and Raids

Blackrock Depths is back, offering new rewards fit for the current content season. Players can tackle it as part of an LFR group, or in a flex group of 10 to 15 players on Normal or Heroic difficulty.

The classic raid will feature 8 familiar bosses for players who’ve been here from the near beginning.

When the Cataclysm shook Azeroth in 2010, it overhauled the vanilla world (of warcraft) and with it many dungeons were also revamped. But now the original Deadmines is back via timewalking.

Other dungeons prepared for the anniversary event include:

• Dire Maul
• Zul’farrak
• Stratholme

Party in Tanaris with World Bosses

The Caverns of Time will be the center stage for the anniversary event, and two old bosses from previous expansions will show up to crash the party.

First off is the Sha of Anger, the world boss from Mists of Pandaria will spawn in, shouting across the map for challengers.

Second, is Archavon the Stone Watcher. Which if you’re like us, you totally forgot he existed. Remember Wintergrasp in Wrath of the Lich King? Archavon was the final boss of Vault of Archavon, the dungeon you could only access if your faction held control of the open world PvP zone.

Fun and Games with Chromie

Players can help out the celebration in Tanaris, and Chromie in particular needs a hand. Tours through time to the Gates of Ahn’qiraj have gone awry and she needs players to set things right. This is a scenario for 10 to 20 players that can be queued for in group finder.

Chromie is up for any challenge, but due to her unique role, she has not kept her codex in order. When asked to put together time tours of the opening of the Ahn’qiraj gate, she’s discovered things are in a jumble. She’ll need help from Azeroth’s heroes to put things to rights once more and send out of place enemies in the sands of Silithus back to where they belong. Players can queue up using the Group Finder for this 10-20 player scenario beginning at level 15.

There’s also some mini-games like helping manage guests for the party.

But what’s all this for? Almost all activities during the anniversary event will award a special bronze currency. Players will be able to unlock cosmetics ranging from toys, to mounts, and most interestingly: revamped tier 2 armor sets! The classic apparel is being brought up to date with new textures that don’t look like they’re from the PS1 era.
