Wests Tigers will have three home bases under a new deal

The Wests Tigers have locked up their home ground for the next three years, with CommBank Stadium, Campbelltown Sports Stadium and Leichhardt Oval set to split hosting rights.

There have been many conjectures about where the joint venture should play its game, with Leichhardt Oval receiving $40 million in funding from federal, state and local government to help modernize the “eighth wonder of the world”, which has been criticized for its facilities . .

The club confirmed on Monday that CommBank Stadium in Parramatta would host four matches in 2025, 2026 and 2027, while Campbelltown would also host four matches in 2025 and 2026, with an option for the 2027 season.

Leichhardt will host three NRL matches and the club’s final trial match in 2025 and 2026, with an option for 2027.

The Tigers will also continue to host a match at Suncorp Stadium during Magic Round for the next three seasons, but the club has ended its partnership with Tamworth.

“The club has arrived at this three-year stadium policy following months of detailed planning, consultation, customer research and negotiations with key stakeholders, including municipalities and venue operators,” a club statement said.

“Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown Sports Stadium will undergo much-needed improvements over the coming years, which will undoubtedly reduce capacity at these venues during the construction phase.

“A decision on whether to play home games at these venues in the 2027 season will not be made until construction timelines and ground capacities have been confirmed.”

Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson explained the challenges associated with making a decision like this, with the club calling CommBank home for the first time since 2022.

The call to reduce Leichhardt games from five in 2024 to three, as we have seen in recent years, will upset locals, who are creating a unique atmosphere on the suburban ground.

“A joint venture will always face challenges in site selection,” Richardson said.

“Our members and fans know that we will always make decisions that we believe are in the best interests of this club.

“A longer-term decision on the home ground cannot be made until we have full details of the stadium improvements and construction timelines.

“CommBank Stadium is a great place to watch football and offers our members first-class facilities to enjoy the Wests Tigers matchday experience.

“It will also provide significant commercial opportunities that Wests Tigers need to grow and become a top four club.”
