A Turkish national stabbed an Israeli border police officer in Jerusalem on April 30 and was then shot dead by officers on the spot, Israeli police said.

The border police officer was moderately injured. Police identified the attacker as a 34-year-old Turkish national.

Israeli security forces have been on high alert since the October 7 Hamas attacks, which sparked the six-month war in Gaza.

“A terrorist armed with a knife arrived in the Old City of Jerusalem… attacked and stabbed border police,” a police statement said.

The injured police officer and another officer at the scene fought each other and shot the attacker, who was later pronounced dead.
