Turkish Airlines plans to discontinue ticket sales via Saber & Abacus GDS systems from September 1, BA

Turkish Airlines has announced a major update that will impact ticket distribution via the Saber and Abacus Global Distribution Systems (GDS). Effective September 1, 2024, the airline’s content will no longer be accessible through these platforms, following the expiration of the distribution agreement with Saber on August 31, 2024.

This development comes as Turkish Airlines and Saber have failed to reach a new agreement despite ongoing negotiations. Although Turkish Airlines has expressed its willingness to continue its partnership on terms similar to those with its other GDS partners, these efforts have not yet been reciprocated by Sabre.

In a formal notice to its trading partners, Turkish Airlines emphasizes that the airline remains open to “cordial, solution-oriented and productive discussions” with Saber to find a way forward. However, the lack of an agreement means that travel agents and partners who rely on Saber and Abacus’ systems will currently have to find alternative channels to access Turkish Airlines content.
To mitigate the impact on its trading partners, Turkish Airlines has introduced an alternative booking channel, TKCONNECT, accessible via the website ndc.thy.com. This platform will offer exclusive content and services, allowing partners to continue booking Turkish Airlines flights and managing reservations seamlessly. Additionally, Turkish Airlines content will continue to be available on other GDS platforms, providing further options for trading partners. The airline has also issued guidance on refund and reissue procedures for tickets issued through Saber and Abacus before the August 31 deadline. Turkish Airlines sales offices will continue to support trading partners in navigating these changes and addressing any concerns.

Turkish Airlines, known for flying to more countries than any other airline, remains optimistic that Saber will reconsider its position, making a renewed partnership possible. The airline reiterated its commitment to its trading partners and assured them of continued support and communication on any further developments.

This move marks a significant shift in Turkish Airlines’ distribution strategy, potentially impacting a broad spectrum of travel agents and partners who rely on Saber and Abacus systems.
