The German ‘Every You Every Me’ receives a triple award

German drama film ‘Every You Every Me’ (also known as ‘Alle Die Du Bist’) was declared the best film winner at the 7th edition of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) on Saturday. The festival’s awards are known as the Golden Global Awards.

The film about a woman trying to reconnect with her partner in a failing relationship, directed by Michael Fetter Nathansky, had its world premiere at the Berlinale in February. At MIFFEST, the film also earned the Best Actress award for Aenne Schwarz and also saw Nathansky take home the Best Screenplay award.

The film “boldly confronts the challenges that the working class faces in real life, especially the struggles associated with monetary shortages. [and] skillfully transforms this harsh reality into cinematic excellence,” said a jury statement.

The award for best director went to the duo Alireza Ghasemi and Raha Amirfazli for their film ‘In the Land of Brothers’. The film is about three members of an Afghan family who are refugees in Iran and has been praised for its fearless telling of a globally relevant issue.

Taiwanese star Wu Kang-ren received the Best Actor award for his performance as a mute man in the Taiwanese and Malaysian co-production film ‘Abang Adik’. Jack Tan won Best Supporting Actor for the same film. “Abang Adik” has been winning awards on the international festival circuit for over a year, with trophies at the Far East Film Festival (Udine), Fribourg, the First Youth Film Festival and Taiwan’s Golden Horse Film Festival. China’s You Junfen has won the MIFFEST award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘The Great Phuket’.

Tojo Xavier was honored with the award for Best Cinematography for his work in ‘Rapture’. The emerging talent award went to “Betania” and Brazilian director Marcelo Botta.

As previously announced, the festival presented the Lifetime Achievement Awards to Asian film icons Christine Hakim and Kore-eda Hirokazu. In his acceptance speech, Kore-eda discussed the universal power of cinema.
