Kiev has released images of the Russian fighter plane before it was shot down.

The footage, shared by Ukraine, captured the Russian Su-30SM fighter jet in Ukrainian crosshairs before it made a shocking dive into the sea.

Before it was shot down, the Russian plane deployed four of its six “Kh-31P supersonic anti-radar missiles” against Ukrainian targets, according to the Sun.

After the attack, Russian Telegram channels claimed that the plane experienced unusual technical problems before crashing. Telegram channel Voevoda Veshchaet also tried to claim that no combat incident was the cause of the plane crash.

Meanwhile, Kyiv military officials confirmed the successful attack and said: “During an operation in the waters of the Black Sea, soldiers of the special unit of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine destroyed a Russian Su-30SM fighter plane.

“The fighter that fell into the sea belonged to the 43rd separate naval aviation regiment of the Russian Armed Forces, which is stationed at the airfield of the city of Saki in temporarily occupied Crimea.

“The occupiers lost contact with their warship around 5 a.m. on September 11, 2024.”

Debris from the crash, including a wing, was later recovered off the coast of Crimea. A large oil slick was also observed in the water. The crash resulted in the loss of twelve Russian aircraft in a precision airstrike by Ukrainian forces.

The Russian pilots were declared dead after a failed search.

Two Russian pilots manning the plane reportedly failed to eject and were pronounced dead after a failed search mission.

The Russian loss of the fighter comes as Putin’s forces suffered major losses in the Kursk border area.
