London Drugs remains closed and says it is reviewing billions of lines of data

Retailer London Drugs says it is rebuilding its data infrastructure with the help of leading external experts to safely bring its operations back online following a cyber security incident that closed stores for five days.

The store said in a statement that there are billions of lines of data and code to review, but that teams have been working around the clock and progress has been made.

The Richmond, BC-based company has more than 80 stores in BC Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and all have been closed since Sunday’s cybersecurity incident.

The company’s statement said its investigation to date shows no evidence that customer databases have been compromised, including for pharmacy patients and its LDExtra members.

The impact of the breach on business operations is said to have been significant and the recovery process is rigorous.

Company President Clint Mahlman says they are determining whether they can reopen with partial service to serve customers more quickly, especially those who need prescriptions.

“The outpouring of customer and supplier support and understanding shown to all of us at London Drugs is greatly appreciated as we work to reopen in a methodical, safe and responsible manner following this cybersecurity incident, which will affect all customers and our London Drugs community ,” says Mahlman.

The statement said phone lines are operational and customers are advised to contact their local store or pharmacy if necessary, or visit in person during business hours for immediate support.
