‘Life of Chuck’ wins the Toronto Film Festival’s People’s Choice Award

‘The Life of Chuck’, an apocalyptic feel-good story, won the audience award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

This award has historically been a reliable predictor of eventual Oscar success. In recent years, winners such as ‘Green Book’ and ‘Nomadland’ won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. It’s unclear if that will be the case this year, although “The Life of Chuck” has received mostly positive reviews.

At this year’s festival, the first runner-up for the Audience Award was “Emilia Perez,” while the second runner-up was “Anora” by Sean Baker. The audience award for the festival’s Midnight Madness series went to Demi Moore’s ‘The Substance’ and the documentary prize went to ‘The Tragically Hip No Dress Rehearsal’. All films in TIFF’s official selection are eligible for the Audience Award, which is voted on by the viewing public.
