PARIS — PARIS (AP) — Lady Gaga delivered a dazzling performance as the first musical act at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris — only it was all pre-recorded.

The Grammy and Oscar-winning artist began her performance on steps along the Seine River singing “Mon Truc en Plumes” in tribute to French ballet dancer, actor and singer Zizi Jeanmaire. She was joined by a group of eight dancers wearing pink feather fans, all in custom Dior costumes, before moving on to the piano.

“Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special bond with the French and singing French music. “I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion everyone is reminded of one of the most magical cities in the world: Paris,” the singer wrote after her performance on X.

The singer’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment on why her performance was pre-recorded.

An Associated Press reporter noticed Gaga starting to warm up about three hours before the opening ceremony began. She performed for about an hour before waving to fans as she walked away.

Gaga’s appearance was a surprise – she was not listed in a schedule provided to the media in advance – but rumors swirled after the singer and actor was spotted in Paris.
