Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra was left stunned by star batsman Virat Kohli’s struggles against the Sri Lankan spinners in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. Kohli was turned LBW in all three matches.
The former cricketer shed light on how Kohli had misread the line of deliveries and also noted that the 35-year-old used a review every over. He scored just 58 runs in three innings in the series.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra says the following about Virat Kohli:
“Virat Kohli LBW three times in three innings against spinners. I can’t remember the last time this happened. He played on the wrong line and also used reviews every time. He couldn’t quite impose himself in the series.”
Chopra also highlighted Shreyas Iyer’s struggle and said:
“Shreyas Iyer is considered a good player of spin but even he was unable to counter the spinners twice and was dismissed once for pacing. If our good spin players are putting up such performances, I am not sure why this is happening.”
The Indian batters also faltered against the spinners in the third ODI, with left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage emerging as the choice of the bowlers with figures of 5/27.
Aakash Chopra on difference between Rohit Sharma and other batters
With 157 runs from three innings, Rohit Sharma had a successful series from an individual perspective. However, Aakash Chopra was surprised to see how the other Indian batters failed to impose themselves after Sharma was dismissed.
“Rohit Sharma seems to be a cut above the rest. It seems like the bowlers are scared when they bowl to him. But as soon as he gets dismissed, other batters just can’t bat and this is a pattern that India will be disappointed with ” he said. according to the above source).
Chopra believes India will be disappointed if they lose against Sri Lanka with a full-strength team as they haven’t even experimented or rested the majority of their first-choice players.
