The biggest sporting event in the world is back.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris, with a spectacular opening ceremony on the River Seine, and many returning favorite athletes such as Simone Biles for the US gymnastics team, and Andy Murray competing on his behalf in his last ever tennis tournament. from TeamGB.
A number of events started on Wednesday, July 24, but the opening ceremony starts today, Friday, July 26. The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
You might want to capture all this action in glorious 4K – and, unlike the Euro, you can. However, there are limitations you should be aware of.
Here’s how to watch the Paris 2024 Olympics in the UK and US. Note that How To Geek states that the events were not filmed in 4K, but rather upscaled by distributors.
Paris 2024 Olympic Games in 4K in Great Britain
There’s only one way to watch the Olympics in UHD 4K in the UK, and that’s by watching Eurosport’s linear channels: Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2.
These are available to satellite pay-TV customers, i.e. customers on Sky, Virgin Media and EE TV/BT TV packages. You also need a TV and set-top box with 4K support.
Cordbusters has confirmed that the BBC will not broadcast the Olympics in 4K.
We also reached out to Warner and were told that while Discovery+ will have HDR streams for the Games, the streaming platform is instead focusing on having enough bandwidth to deliver up to 54 simultaneous streams. This is probably the same reason BBC iPlayer doesn’t deliver 4K content.
This means that if you get Eurosport via Discovery+ via the internet, for example via Sky Stream or EE TV, you cannot watch in 4K.

Paris 2024 Olympic Games in 4K in USA
In the US, the only way to watch UHD 4K broadcasts of the Paris Olympics is through USA Network. Select events also support Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio. Just like in the UK, you’ll also need a 4K-supported TV and a 4K-supported set-top box.
Comcast Xfinity cable customers can access this through their package, but How To Geek has confirmed that users should also be able to watch UHD games on this channel via the Sling TV, Verizon and YouTube TV.
According to Forbes, UHD 4K coverage will be available starting July 24, each day the Games take place from 8 a.m. to noon ET. Unfortunately this is interrupted due to the opening ceremony.
Unfortunately, according to Deadline, the flexible streaming platform Peacock does not support 4K coverage.
