Anime streamer Crunchyroll has removed the comments section for the anime it streams and also its news articles since July 8.

The change was implemented after the comments section for shonen-ai anime Twilight Out of Focus and Senpai is an Otokonoko were apparently review-bombed the anime with comments, many accusing Crunchyroll of promoting the works as pro-LGBT propaganda.

Crunchyroll states that they are removing the comments section to create a safe space and enivronment, and encouraged to use the star system instead.

At Crunchyroll, we prioritize creating a safe and respectful community environment. To maintain this standard, we are removing all existing user-generated content, including comments, across all our platforms and experiences. The user ratings system will, however, remain allowing you to express your opinions through star ratings.

Many criticized the decision, saying that it is an unwarranted change.

Crunchyroll became one of the largest anime distributors in the west following their merger with Funimation a few years ago.

Twilight Out of Focus premiered on July 4. Senpai is an Otokonoko premiered on July 5 in Crunchyroll.
