The Cathay Group (Cathay) has committed more than HKD 100 billion in investments over the next seven years as part of its bold strategy to further enhance customer experience and strengthen Hong Kong’s international aviation hub status based on the Three-Runway System. This includes major investments in its fleet, cabin products, lounges and digital and sustainability leadership as it sets its sights on growth for its customers, its people and its home base of Hong Kong.

Commenting on the new investment plan, Cathay Group Chairman Patrick Healy said: “With the three-lane system soon to propel Hong Kong’s aviation sector into a new era, the coming years will be an incredibly exciting time for Hong Kong and for Cathay with plenty of new opportunities for growth. As the city’s home airline, we are making a significant contribution to the future success of Hong Kong’s international aviation hub. Our substantial investments further demonstrate our continued commitment to promoting Hong Kong’s continued economic development.

“With more than HKD100 billion invested in our fleet, cabin products, airport lounges and more, we are decisively turning the page and embarking on a bold new strategy for the future, not only in scope but also in quality. Cathay enters an exciting new era, underpinned by our determination to become one of the largest service brands in the world.”
This investment includes Cathay’s purchase of 30 Airbus A330-900 aircraft with the right to purchase an additional 30 aircraft in the future. These new regional widebody aircraft are expected to be delivered from 2028 and will form part of the Cathay Pacific fleet that mainly serves destinations in Asia. In addition to new cabin products, free Wi-Fi will gradually be offered to Business Class customers and Diamond members over the coming months. This will enhance the airline’s continued investment in inflight dining and entertainment to make the customer experience truly exceptional.
