The Blues are sweating on a hamstring injury to Liam Martin as the Panthers also lost Jack Cole and Matt Eisenhuth, while the Sharks lost Nicho Hynes.

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary, meanwhile, said he was yet to learn the full extent of Martin’s injury, with rookie five-eighth Jack Cole also nursing a hamstring problem and Matt Eisenhuth failing a HIA.

Meanwhile, Nicho Hynes is a doubt for Origin after his calf injury has re-aggravated.

Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon said he was unsure whether his star half would be available for the Blues squad, but noted he would likely have been able to continue playing had it not been for the 15-minute break for the HIA.

‘He’s not that bad. He probably cooled down with the 15 minute free time and tightened up. I think he’s doing fine… I just got word that he had tightened up with the cooling down,” Fitzgibbon said.

“I’m not sure [on Origin]. Even if he were to pull through, he would still need adjustments [in training] before. Obviously it happened a few weeks ago. He got through the past week well and came through tonight as well.

“I don’t know how serious it is, but it’s not like it’s completely gone.”

It was a dramatic week for Isaiah Papali’i, ending with an injury.

The star second-rower was cleared to negotiate with rivals and was quickly snapped up by the Panthers for 2025 and beyond.

Tigers fans would have been interested to see how he responded in Friday’s game against the Cowboys, but his night was cut short.

Papali’i left the field limping after a hip-drop tackle from Valentine Holmes and did not return to the match.

DRAGON UPDATE ON WOUNDED DUO

The St George Illawarra Dragons have been dealt a bitter blow, with two key players now on the sidelines after injuries in Thursday’s defeat to the Bulldogs.

Hame Sele was seen clutching his shoulder after the first set of the match, but soldiered on bravely until leaving the court in the 15th minute.

The Dragons confirmed on Friday that scans revealed a fracture in Sele’s shoulder.

The team’s injury problems then worsened Jack Birds left ankle buckled as he tried to tackle Bronson Xerri late in the first half.

Bird was left writhing in pain and was taken from the field in an ambulance.

The club has since confirmed there is no fracture to Bird’s ankle, but scans revealed a “significant ankle sprain”.

The duo’s return date has yet to be confirmed.
