The Boomers have announced a revised 17-man roster for the upcoming Paris Olympics, cutting five players ahead of next month’s training camp.

Coach Brian Goorjian initially put together a mix of experience and youth in an expanded 21-man roster that included future NBA prospects Rocco Zikarsky and Johnny Furphy.

Both Zikarsky and Furphy were among the five names dropped on Thursday, joining Will McDowell-White, Keanu Pinder and Sam Froling as the unfortunate few missed.

“The level of the tournament will be at an unprecedented high level and we are happy with the group we have put together,” said Goorjian.

“It’s a special group and an exciting time for basketball and the country. We will bring the boys together and get the right energy.

“The level of talent the country is producing is at a new level. We have guys competing against the best in leagues around the world and the NBL continues to develop to a world class level for Australian talent.

“We won’t overcomplicate things here. We have an exciting group of players who all have unique strengths and advantages. Our goal is to maximize that.”

The revised squad will report to camp in late June, before a series of hits against China in Melbourne from July 2 to 5.

These matches will help coach Goorjian then further reduce the squad, with the final twelve selected to travel to Abu Dhabi for matches against the United States on July 15 and Serbia the following day.
