Like it or not, back-to-school season is just around the corner. While you may be focusing on investing in new supplies and technology to get you through the tough classes and long lectures, there’s another important area to pay attention to: streaming.

Students have access to many discounted subscriptions for music, film and TV platforms, so you can get all your entertainment for less and spend that extra money on supermarket shopping and/or nights at the pub.

With that in mind, here are the best deals and discounts you can get on streaming services if you’re a student.

Amazon Prime Video

• Original price: £8.99/$14.99 per month
• Discount price: Free for six months, then £4.49/$7.49 per month

One of the biggest discounts available to students is a six-month free trial of an Amazon Prime membership, which includes access to the streaming library. After the free period ends, you’ll still get half price of a standard four-year membership.

Amazon Prime Video has brilliant original series including The Boys, Good Omens, My Lady Jane and The Rings of Power. Plus, there are plenty of syndicated shows and blockbuster movies like The Office and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Spotify Premium

• Original price: £11.99/$11.99 per month
• Discount price: £5.99/$5.99 per month

If ad-free music and downloads are important to you, Spotify is offering generous savings on its Premium membership.

You must study at an accredited university-level educational institution and submit evidence via SheerID using verified documents to prove your status.

While Spotify Premium Student includes music and podcasts, audiobooks are not included. All your benefits last a total of four years.

YouTube premium

• Original price: £12.99/$13.99 per month
• Reduced price: £7.99/$7.99 per month

Another service you can get ad-free and offline is YouTube. With a Premium membership you can also listen to videos while your phone is locked – ideal if you use the platform for music or video essays.

This student discount is almost 50% off a full membership and lasts for a total of four years, so you can get the most out of vlogs, video game playthroughs, and all kinds of other videos. If you’re not sure if this plan is worth the price, don’t worry: you still get a one-month free trial before paying anything.

Please note that this is a different subscription than YouTube Music Premium.

Apple Music and TV+

• Original price: £10.99/$10.99 per month for Apple Music and £8.99/$8.99 for Apple TV+
• Reduced price: £5.99/$5.99 per month for Apple Music and free Apple TV+

If you prefer Apple Music to Spotify (perhaps if you’re an iPhone user), you can get half off a subscription for up to four years. But wait – that’s not all.

This deal also includes a subscription to Apple TV+, which is worth £8.99/$8.99 per month. This allows you to watch Severance, Ted Lasso and The Morning Show, among others.

Apple TV+ may not have a huge streaming library like Prime Video, but it’s also ad-free at no extra cost… for now.

Max

• Original price: $9.99 per month
• Reduced price: $4.99 per month

For the back-to-school season, HBO streaming service Max has introduced a brand new Student tier, cutting the ad-supported tier in half, from $9.99 per month to $4.99 per month for a year when you authenticate with UNiDAYS .

Max offers the best that HBO has to offer, including House of the Dragon, Succession and The White Lotus. It also has streaming rights to the latest and greatest Warner Bros. movies, including last year’s two biggest films, Barbie and Oppenheimer.

This offer is exclusive to US students.

Peacock

• Original price: $7.99 per month
• Reduced price: $1.99 per month

By using SheerID, students can get Peacock for the bargain price of $1.99 per month for 12 months.

Peacock is home to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, as well as NBC favorites such as The Office, Parks and Recreation and Poker Face. It also has a great movie selection, including Mean Girls, Monkey Man and The Bikeriders.

From September it will also host Sunday Night Football for the NFL – the perfect way to get you through the first few lectures if you’re a sports fan. Peacock is an American exclusive, so British readers are not eligible.

Hulu

• Original price: $7.99 per month
• Discount price: $1.99 per month

US streaming service Hulu features originals such as Only Murders in the Building and Shōgun, and students can get a whopping 75% discount on an ad-free subscription.

Hulu is also home to reality series like Love Island UK and The Kardashians, making it perfect for comfortable viewing. Again, you’ll need to verify your status via SheerID to sign up – and UK readers cannot qualify for this offer.

Biggest+

• Original price: $5.99 per month
• Reduced price: $4.50 per month

While this deal isn’t as generous as some on this list, 25% off Paramount+ is still a decent savings.

This streaming platform is home to series from the Star Trek universe, the TV series Knuckles, Fire Country and Ghosts US. It’s also great for sports fans, as a subscription includes the UEFA Champions League, NFL on CBS, CBS Sports Golazo Network and more.

At the time of writing, no Paramount+ subscription is offered to UK students.

NFL Sunday Ticket

• Original price: up to $449 per season
• Reduced price: $199 per season

While Peacock and Paramount+ offer access to some NFL games, not every game is on these platforms. If you want unfiltered access to more local teams, you’ll need an NFL Sunday Ticket.

For the season, it costs $199. That may sound high, but keep in mind that the standard price is $349 with YouTube TV, or $449 if you use the standalone service. This also includes Multiview, so you can watch multiple games at once – if that’s up your alley.
