Barack Obama‘ breaks his silence Joe Biden withdraws from the 2024 presidential race… as a compliment to his former vice president, but stops short of endorsing the current one.
The 44th POTUS released a statement A few minutes ago on Sunday… and it’s a glowing tribute to the sitting president – a man he calls a “patriot of the highest order.”
Obama says he has come to admire Biden’s character during the years they worked side by side as president and vice president. According to him, the character has helped Biden save the country from destruction in recent years.
Barack points to Joe’s economic, international and climate change victories during his administration… though he admits his greatest achievement was keeping Trump away in 2020.
Obama says such an excellent record gave Biden every right to run for re-election, adding that he never saw Joe withdraw from a fight – so he knows conceding the race must have been tough for the sitting president.
Then Barack enters the race as it currently stands… and his comments are interesting because he doesn’t come right out and back Kamala Harris.
Instead, Barack says he has “extreme confidence that our party’s leaders will be able to create a process that will produce an excellent candidate.” So basically he’s waiting to see how everyone will do in an open field.
Biden already supports Kamala Harris – who says she is too honored by his approval – but it appears that Barack will not intervene until the party has decided on the next candidate. By the way, he also made the same move in 2016, waiting until after that Hillary Clinton won the nomination to support her.
Worth noting…reports recently emerged that Barack told Democratic allies Joe needed to lose weight for the good of the party – although he didn’t say this to his face.
Anyway, Barack has kind words for Joe… even as he prepares to be the next president.
