A man on an ATV ended up in the hospital after a cop deliberately blocked his path on the road, causing the man to crash into the windshield… and people are divided.
This recently happened in New Haven, CT, where a police officer drove along a narrow path in a park that is technically only open to pedestrians… this after complaints that people have been riding there illegally, including ATVs and all-terrain vehicles.
As the officer slowly drives up the road, he passes families and other bystanders walking in the opposite direction… and a few seconds later he sees this ATV flying towards him.
The officer quickly makes the decision to steer his vehicle into the left lane and stops… blocking the ATV driver’s path. The ATV driver is unable to stop in time and crashes into the officer’s vehicle. He is thrown aside after a hard blow that shatters the glass.
The unidentified man was hospitalized with serious injuries; his exact condition is unclear. The New Haven Police Department, meanwhile, has come out and defended their officer’s actions.
They say the officer did this on purpose to protect the pedestrians and cyclists he had just passed because he felt the ATV was traveling dangerously fast and was at risk of hitting them.
However, others have pushed back… saying this officer could have killed the man, and it’s unclear whether he would hit anyone. Either way, the New Haven Police Department has their man’s back.
They say they hope this serves as a warning to others… don’t drive where you’re not supposed to.
