Animated sex-musical comedy ‘Spermageddon’ Purchased for France

“Spermageddon,” the Norwegian animated sex-musical comedy that became one of the most talked about titles at this year’s Annecy Film Festival, has been acquired for France.

Originals Factory, the distributor whose credits include “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Whale” and “20 Days in Mariupol,” has picked up the film, which has already been purchased for territories around the world following its premiere last month . Charades took care of the sales.

Directed by Tommy Wirkola (“Dead Snow,” “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters”) and Rasmus A. Sivertsen (the “Louis and Luca” franchise), “Spermageddon” – described by the filmmakers as “raw and heartwarming” – tells the story. story of a teenage couple experiencing their first time and two sperm on a fateful journey to find the egg. Inspired by the likes of ‘South Park’ and ‘Sausage Party’, the raunchy film features musical numbers and a whole bunch of talking sperm.

“’Spermageddon’ marks our first foray into feature film animation,” said Tristan Du Laz, CEO of Originals Factory. “We are thrilled and incredibly excited to be working on such an original, daring and irreverent cinematic proposal, one that is extremely timely. Charades chairman Yohann Comte added: “I couldn’t think of a better distributor for the film. Originals Factory proved that they were one of the few distributors that could be bold and innovative enough to bring young adult audiences to theaters with bold indie cinema propositions, while maximizing ancillary revenue.”

Charades has already sold “Spermageddon” far and wide, with the recordings sold to Square One Entertainment (Germany, Switzerland and Austria); Youplanet Images (Spain); MCF Megacom (Adriatic and Bulgaria); Film Europe (Czech Republic and Slovakia); Prorom Distribution (Hungary and Romania); Exponenta (CIS); Acme Film (Baltics); Creative Century Entertainment (Taiwan); Shinesaeng Ad.Venture (Thailand); Shaw Organization (Singapore); and SF Studio (Scandinavia and Iceland). The Scandinavian release is scheduled for January 10, 2025.

“Spermageddon” is produced by Kjetil Omberg and Jørgen Storm Rosenberg of 74 Entertainment, in collaboration with Qvisten Animation, and co-produced by Stian Tveiten. It was written by Vegar Hoel, Jesper Sundnes and Wirkola.
