Heavy rains have disrupted flight operations in Mumbai, leading to cancellations and diversions. Air India is offering affected passengers a full refund or a one-time free rescheduling for trips booked on July 21, 2024.

The airline advises people to check flight status before heading to the airport. The city has been experiencing heavy rainfall for weeks.

IndiGo, a domestic airline, has issued an advisory warning passengers traveling to and from Mumbai to monitor their flight status due to heavy rainfall expected to increase in the next 24 hours.
The advisory reads: “Attention Mumbaikars! We are experiencing heavy rainfall and this is expected to increase over the next 24 hours. If you are flying to/from #Mumbai, check your flight status at https://bit.ly /3lpnChV and plan your travel accordingly due to waterlogging.”In a related incident, a Vistara flight, UK696, from Amritsar to Mumbai was diverted to Ahmedabad on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions at Mumbai airport. According to an official statement from Vistara Airlines, the flight was scheduled to land in Ahmedabad at around 12.15 pm.

Similarly, another Vistara flight, UK822, from Chennai to Mumbai was also diverted to Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon. The airline posted on Follow us for further updates.”

Moreover, Vistara has issued an advisory for its passengers on X, advising them that flights to and from Mumbai may be affected due to the bad weather.

The airline advised customers to allow extra time for their journey to the airport to account for any delays or disruptions.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has advised citizens to avoid coastal areas and leave their homes only if necessary due to the ongoing heavy rains. They also called on residents to take precautions and provided an emergency number.

Earlier, Mumbai’s civic authority urged residents not to go out unless necessary, following an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall.

“The IMD has today issued an orange alert (heavy to very heavy) rainfall for Mumbai. People are requested not to go out unless necessary,” the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in a statement.

An orange alert was also issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. Several roads in Mumbai have been flooded, causing traffic disruption.
