Agatha Harkness is finally back for more witchcraft shenanigans. In the first teaser for her standalone series, she investigates murders, casts spells, gathers a coven, plots with Audrey Plaza and more.
The eccentric Agatha first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the WandaVision series as a nosy neighbor named Agnes. However, the seemingly innocent woman turned out to be a powerful witch who wanted to take over Wanda Maximoff’s unique powers.
Viewers came to love this sassy, hilarious, and quite ruthless witch, so it’s no wonder Marvel gave Agatha her own series. The show will be part of phase five of the MCU, and here’s everything we know about it.
Official title of the Agatha Harkness series
Initially the show was called Agatha: House of Harkness, but was renamed Coven of Chaos in July 2022, and Darkhold Diaries in September 2023. Those who thought this was the last change were mistaken.
On May 13, 2024, Marvel fans were surprised when the title Agatha: The Lying Witch with the Great Wardrobe was revealed on social media. However, the tweet was quickly deleted.
Finally, the ultimate title was revealed on May 14 during Disney’s Upfront presentation. Kathryn Hahn, who plays the witch, announced the show’s name Agatha all the time – an obvious reference to a beloved song from the WandaVision show.
The constant title changes seemed to be part of Disney’s marketing strategy to stoke fan interest in the series.
Agatha All Around Release Date
The series about the clever witch premieres on Disney+ Wednesday September 18, 2024, with two episodes.
The show, described as a miniseries, will run for nine episodes.
Agatha All Around was initially set to debut in the winter of 2023, but production was postponed due to the Hollywood industry strikes.
Who is Agatha Harkness?
Agatha first appeared in 1970’s Fantastic Four #94 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. She was depicted as an elderly nanny who was treated by Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman was hired to care for their son Franklin. It turned out that she was a witch who remembered the sinking of Atlantis and was one of the defendants in the 17th century Salem trial. After many adventures with the Fantastic Four and Scarlet Witch, Agatha was eventually burned at the stake. However, she returned to life and eventually regained her youth.
In the comics, Agatha was Wanda’s mentor who taught her to use and control magical powers. Ultimately, she discovered that the Maximoff Children were merely manifestations of the soul of Mephisto – one of Marvel’s villains – and erased Wanda’s memory of them, protecting her from the trauma. However, when Scarlett Witch discovered the truth, she murdered Agatha in cold blood.

Agatha Harkness was the most powerful witch on earth. She could, among other things, levitate, teleport, use telekinesis, manipulate the four elements, cast illusions and read people’s minds. She also had a famous cat named Ebony, who possessed mystical powers.
Agatha All Around plot
Spoilers for WandaVision below.
In WandaVision we saw a much grimmer version of Agatha. Instead of Wanda’s mentor, she was her enemy and power-seeking sinister witch – though she was still funny and charismatic. At the end of the series, she was captured by Wanda in the persona of Agnes and condemned to live in an ordinary world.
In Agatha All Around, filmmakers depict Agatha’s fate after the events of WandaVision. Thanks to Rio Vidal, her old friend, she finds a way to break Maximoff’s hex. However, she realizes that she is powerless. To regain her abilities, she gathers the coven of witches and sets out on a path full of dark magic, dangerous creatures and enemies.
As grim as it may sound, the series has a comedic touch. The makers have promised that the show will feature musical numbers similar to WandaVision’s viral ‘Agatha All along’.
The description of episode 1 of the series reads:
In the first episode, we see Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) finally escape from a spell she’s been trapped in. She can’t wait to return to her old murderous ways only to find herself powerless. The only way out for her is a dangerous quest to regain her powers, with the help of some unlikely friends.
