Adam Reynolds Triple M radio controversy, Billy Walters, Brisbane Broncos, Gorden Tallis slams Adam Reynolds’ leadership, Kevin Walters, rugby league news

The Brisbane Broncos have been branded a “broken club” following their spectacular pre-season loss to the Dolphins and during captain Adam Reynolds’ appearance on Triple M radio.

Last week, hooker Billy Walters sensationally left his regular guest spot on breakfast radio on Brisbane’s Triple M following the station’s criticism of the Broncos and his father and coach Kevin Walters.

Since then, Reynolds has appeared in Walters’ place, with The Daily Telegraph Phil Rothfield says it is a “disappointing” decision by the Broncos captain.

Bulldogs forward Max King joins the Fox League podcast to dig into the Bulldogs’ remarkable 2024 revival and talk about the impact of coach Cameron Ciraldo, captain Stephen Crichton and the club’s famed defensive system

“For our viewers who are unaware of the situation, Billy Walters stopped eating breakfast during his appearance on Triple M Brisbane because he got over his father’s criticism,” Rothfield explained.

“They packed the Broncos and Kevvie a lot. What I didn’t like is that Adam Reynolds jumped right in and took Billy’s job.

“In situations like this, the team comes first. There’s a pretty serious feud going on there with one guy pulling out the pin.

“I know Reynolds has a contract with Triple M, but not to do that breakfast show, and I’m really disappointed in him for not standing up for Kev and Billy and saying, sorry, I’m not doing it.”

Rothfield’s comments come after NRL360 co-host Gorden Tallis criticized Reynolds for not standing up for his coach.

“I put pressure on Adam Reynolds,” Tallis told Triple M’s Sunday Sin Bin programme.

“Kevvie came out and stood up for him (Reynolds). Now Kevvie has been under the pump and silence (from Reynolds)…crickets.

“It was just a test (of whether Reynolds had Walters’ support).

“Billy Walters said no to this station and his captain (Reynolds) jumped right in.”

Reynolds responded to Tallis’ comments on Monday, stressing that Walters has his full support.

NRL360’s Braith Anasta asked for some clarity on the situation, wondering if there was an obligation for the Broncos to have any of their players appear on radio.

‘Do we know the circumstances behind this? Was it a Broncos media member who asked him to go on the show? Are there certain requirements for Triple M? Or is it just a case of him taking the job,” Anasta said.

The Australian’s Brent Read said he believed Reynolds had been asked by the club to continue the radio commitments, but Rothfield said the Broncos halfback should have turned it down anyway.

“A great captain with the season on the line would have said to Triple M: I support Billy. I support Kevvie. “I’m sorry, but I won’t accept it,” he said.
