“The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president,” the film’s producers said in a statement Variety about the charge letter. “We want everyone to see it and then decide.”

Ali Abbasithe Iranian-Danish filmmaker who directed The intern, responded to Trump’s legal threats during a press conference in Cannes. “Everyone talks about him suing a lot of people. But they don’t talk about his success rate, you know?” he said.

“I don’t necessarily think this is a movie he wouldn’t like,” the director added. “I don’t necessarily think he would like it. I think he would be surprised. I would offer to meet him wherever he wants and then talk about the context of the film, have a screening and then have a chat If that’s of interest to any of the Trump campaign people here.”
