The campaign came in two waves and attempted to demoralize Ukrainians and Ukrainian speakers abroad with disinformation messages on war-related topics

This week, ESET researchers unveiled their findings on Operation Texonto, a disinformation/psychological (PSYOP) campaign in which Russia-linked threat actors attempted to demoralize Ukrainians and Ukrainian speakers abroad with disinformation messages on war-related topics. The two campaigns came in two waves (in November 2023 and late December 2023 respectively) and spread false information about heating cuts and medicine and food shortages, all typical themes of Russian propaganda.

In addition to this campaign, ESET detected a spearphishing campaign that recently targeted a Ukrainian defense company and an EU agency and attempted to steal login credentials for Microsoft Office 365 accounts. The PSYOPs and phishing operations are most likely linked.
