The man behind the popular Amos Cookie company, Wally Amos, has died at the age of 88. Wally’s children confirmed the tragic news of his death, stating that he passed away due to complications of dementia. His children, Sarah, Michael, Gregory and Shawn Amos, said in a joint statement:

“With his Panama hat, kazoo and boundless optimism, Famous Amos was a great American success story and a source of black pride. Our father taught us the value of hard work, believing in ourselves and chasing our dreams.”

Wally Amos was best known for his bite-sized chocolate chip cookies, which became an instant hit among the masses when he first opened his bakery on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles in 1975.
