Shannen Doherty is unsure about stepping back into the dating pool as she continues to battle cancer.

“Listen, I think it’s hard for someone like me, in my personal opinion, because it’s hard to date someone when you know they might have an expiration date,” Doherty, 53, shared Kelly Ripa on her “Let’s talk off camera” podcast during the episode of Wednesday, June 26. “I don’t think men deal with death and illness – I don’t want to generalize most men and say all men – but they don’t deal with it as well as women do.”

Doherty, who revealed she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2020, confessed she thinks she’s a “really hard sell” as a romantic partner. Ripa, for her part, strongly disagreed with the actress’ sentiments. (In addition to battling cancer, Doherty is also in the middle of a divorce from her husband Kurt Iswarienkofrom whom she divorced in April 2023 after 11 years of marriage.)

The Charmed alum shared that while she is open to dating, she is also selective when it comes to her partners. Doherty admitted that she recently started dating someone, but “saw a red flag within 30 minutes” and decided not to pursue the connection any further. Ripa, 53, admitted she had someone in mind to set Doherty up with and teased that he was a catch, but he was on the older side.

Ripa added that the mystery lover also had enough “cheese” to cover any elective surgeries she might need. Doherty laughed at her friend’s sentiment and joked that she was “sold.” She said that when looking for a partner, she is looking for ‘companionship’ more than ‘anything else’.

I probably got completely into myself in my mid-thirties.”
