Andy Murray is facing the heartbreaking prospect of quitting tennis without a proper goodbye after being banned from Wimbledon.

This is reported by the British Telegraph Murray will miss six weeks due to surgery on a spinal cyst, which will cost him a final appearance at his home grand slam.

Murray withdrew from the Queen’s preliminary tournament last week due to a nerve problem in his left leg. He said he first felt the problem while walking to the court for his match with Aussie Jordan Thompson.

The cyst is believed to be the cause of the nerve problem.

It is now also unlikely that the Scot will be ready for the Olympics, meaning he will miss his final chance to add a medal to his total of two gold medals, won in 2012 and 2016.

Murray, 37, has battled a variety of injuries for years, infamously nearing retirement with a farewell video at the Australian Open in 2019.

Although he cannot retire at Wimbledon, where he won two of his three slam titles, Murray could look to regain fitness and head to the US Open, where he had his first breakthrough in 2012.
